The effects of radiofrequency fields on human health are not well understood, and public concern about negative health effects has been rising. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between workers exposed to electromagnetic fields and their reproductive health. We obtained data using a questionnaire in a cross-sectional study of naval military men, response rate 63% (n = 1487). We asked the respondents about exposure, lifestyle, reproductive health, previous diseases, work and education. An expert group categorized the work categories related to electromagnetic field exposure. We categorized the work categories "tele/communication," "electronics" and "radar/sonar" as being exposed to electromagnetic fields. Logistic regression adjusted for age, ever smoked, military education, and physical exercise at work showed increased risk of infertility among tele/communication odds ratio (OR = 1.72, 95% confidence interval 1.04-2.85), and radar/sonar odds ratio (OR = 2.28, 95% confidence interval 1.27-4.09). The electronics group had no increased risk. This study shows a possible relationship between exposure to radiofrequency fields during work with radiofrequency equipment and radar and reduced fertility. Our previous study reported that TGF-β may be isolated from human Wharton’s jelly (WJ) in a form of soluble, high molecular
complex(es). We decided to study the effect of extracellular matrix degradation and reduction of disulphide bridges reduction
on the release of TGF-β from WJ. The WJ prepared from the umbilical cords of newborns delivered at term by healthy mothers
was homogenised and treated with hyaluronidase, collagenase, heparinase, chondroitinase and β-mercaptoethanol, the resulting
extracts were then submitted to TGF-β immunoassay and SDS/PAGE followed by Western immunoblotting. The effect of metalloproteinase
activation on TGF-β was also studied. Pre-treatment of WJ homogenates with hyaluronidase or collagenase markedly increased
the extractability of TGF-β, but did not dissociate the complexes. In contrast, the action of β-mercaptoethanol resulted in
the release of free TGF-β; but activation of metalloproteinases resulted in the disappearance of this factor. We conclude
that TGF-β1 is bound through disulphide bonds to an extracellular matrix component of WJ. The large amount of collagen fibrils
and hyaluronate molecules which surround the cells scattered in WJ may prevent the access of extracting solution to TGF-β
causing a low extractability of this factor. Although hyaluronate and collagen do not bind TGF-β directly, they may present
a barrier that prevents the diffusion of TGF-β in WJ and results in its concentration around the cells thereby facilitating
its interaction with membrane receptors and subsequent stimulation of cell division and synthesis of extracellular matrix

Oviduct histochemistry and site of synthesis of a 29.7 kDa jelly coat glycoprotein in the anuran Lepidobatrachus laevis 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
The oviduct of the anuran Lepidobatrachus laevis contains three morphological regions, each of which contains a histochemically distinct luminal mucosa. In the pars recta, the most anterior portion of the oviduct, there are periodic acid-Schiff base (PAS)-positive simple glands and epithelia. In the pars convoluta, there are alcian blue-positive, combined alcian blue- and PAS-positive and PAS-positive gland types. The most posterior region, the pars uterina, contains alcian blue-positive and alcian blue-negative epithelial cells. Previous work has shown that solubilized egg jelly contains a major 29.7 kDa glycoprotein subunit that was detected in oviduct tissue extracts from the pars convoluta in the present study. Rabbit antisera to the 29.7 kDa egg jelly glycoprotein of L. laevis reacted with the major pars convoluta glycoprotein and there were no immunoreactive components in the pars uterina. The slight immunoreactivity detected at 29.0–37.0 kDa in pars recta extracts is not believed to be the jelly molecule, based on low immunoreactivity and subunit molecular weight measurements. We conclude that the synthesis of the 29.7 kDa egg jelly glycoprotein is restricted to the pars convoluta region of the oviduct. 相似文献

Time-dependent light-scattering studies have been made on mixtures of αs1 -casein and Ca2+ at fixed temperature over a range of [Ca2+] and [αs1 -casein], and also as functions of temperature- Measurements were also made of the extent of precipitate formation in the casein/Ca2+ mixtures, using centrifugation. The results are analysed in terms of a monomeroctamer equilibrium between calcium caseinate particles followed by a Smoluchowski aggregation in which only the octamers can participate. The equilibrium constant is dependent upon the charge on the protein/Ca2+ particles, and hence can be related to the extent of binding of Ca2+ to the αs1 -casein. The Smoluchowski constant is likewise shown to be charge-dependent. The variation of the reaction rate with temperature can be ascribed solely to the changing charge of the αs1 -casein/Ca2+ complex caused by changed binding of Ca2+ at different temperatures. 相似文献

As part of an inventory of macrofungi in selected islands of the Aegean Archipelago (Greece), 18 species of heterobasidiomycetes (phylum Basidiomycota) belonging to the orders Auriculariales, Cantharellales, Dacrymycetales and Tremellales were collected and identified from the islands of Agios Efstratios, Amorgos, Andros, Crete, Ikaria, Naxos and Nisyros. Among the heterobasidiomycetous fungi collected, Ceratobasidium cornigerum, Dacrymyces lacrymalis, Exidiopsis effusa, E. galzinii, Thanatephorus amygdalisporus, Tremella aurantia, Tulasnella pallida and T. pruinosa constitute first national records, while the genera Ceratobasidium, Thanatephorus and Tulasnella are reported for the first time in Greece. All species are listed with information on their hosts/substrates and occurrence in the investigated islands, while the most interesting records are described, illustrated, and critically discussed in the light of existing taxonomic and distribution data. 相似文献

The probes for detection of oxidized low‐density lipoprotein (ox‐LDL) in plasma and in atherosclerotic plaques are expected to facilitate the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of atherosclerosis. Recently, we have reported that a heptapeptide (Lys‐Trp‐Tyr‐Lys‐Asp‐Gly‐Asp, KP6) coupled through the ε‐amino group of N‐terminal Lys to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), (FITC)KP6, can be useful as a fluorescent probe for specific detection of ox‐LDL. In the present study, to develop a novel fluorescent peptide for specific detection of ox‐LDL, we investigated the interaction (with ox‐LDL) of an undecapeptide corresponding to positions 41 to 51 of a potent antimicrobial protein (royalisin, which consists of 51 residues; from royal jelly of honeybees), conjugated at the N‐terminus to FITC in the presence of 6‐amino‐n‐caproic acid (AC) linker, (FITC‐AC)‐royalisin P11, which contains both sequences, Phe‐Lys‐Asp and Asp‐Lys‐Tyr, similar to Tyr‐Lys‐Asp in (FITC)KP6. The (FITC‐AC)‐royalisin P11 bound with high specificity to ox‐LDL in a dose‐dependent manner, through the binding to major lipid components in ox‐LDL (lysophosphatidylcholine and oxidized phosphatidylcholine). In contrast, a (FITC‐AC)‐shuffled royalisin P11 peptide, in which sequences Phe‐Lys‐Asp and Asp‐Lys‐Tyr were modified to Lys‐Phe‐Asp and Asp‐Tyr‐Lys, respectively, hardly bound to LDL and ox‐LDL. These findings strongly suggest that (FITC‐AC)‐royalisin P11 may be an effective fluorescent probe for specific detection of ox‐LDL and that royalisin from the royal jelly of honeybees may play a role in the treatment of atherosclerosis through the specific binding of the region at positions 41 to 51 to ox‐LDL. 相似文献

蜂王浆是哺育蜂咽下腺与上颚腺分泌的供3日龄以内蜜蜂幼虫和蜂王食用的浆状物质,具有多种生物活性。王浆含有丰富的蛋白质,通过直接分离纯化王浆中的蛋白质分子,或通过王浆蛋白基因克隆表达以获得表达产物,进而研究王浆蛋白的功能。研究发现王浆中含有多种具有特定功能的蛋白质,如MRJP3具有免疫调节作用,Jelleine-I-IV及Royalisin具有抗菌作用,MRJP1具有抗肿瘤功能及可能的蜜蜂行为调节功能,57kDa蛋白及Apisimin的促细胞生长功能,57kDa蛋白具有抗疲劳功能等。随着王浆蛋白组分分离、基因克隆表达及其功能研究的深入,王浆蛋白将被应用到生物医药、细胞培养、组织工程等更多的研究领域。 相似文献
